HBWCSN Holds Discussions with Godawari Municipality on Establishing a Front Desk for Home-Based Workers

On 5 August 2026, representatives from the Home-Based Workers Concerned Society Nepal (HBWCSN) visited the Chapagaun group in Godawari Municipality, Lalitpur, to discuss strengthening the recognition and formal inclusion of home-based workers.

During the visit, the HBWCSN team met with the Honourable Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, and the Chief of the Employment Section to discuss establishing a dedicated Front Desk within Godawari Municipality. The proposed Front Desk aims to support the validation and recognition of home-based workers as formal workers, making it easier for them to access government services, social protection schemes, and other employment-related opportunities.

The discussion emphasized the importance of recognizing the significant economic and social contributions of home-based workers, many of whom remain invisible within the formal labour system despite playing vital roles in local and national economies. Establishing a Front Desk at the municipal level would be an important step toward identifying, registering, and recognizing these workers, ensuring that they are included in policies and programmes designed to improve workers' rights and livelihoods.

HBWCSN appreciates the positive engagement and willingness shown by Godawari Municipality to explore this initiative. The organization remains committed to working closely with local governments to advance the recognition, dignity, and rights of home-based workers across Nepal.
